Yup, I can only agree. I also skipped the CS degree and am now working as a CTO. Many employers will definitely ask for formal education, but for the top level jobs, ironically, this is less important. If you can deliver the goods and prove that you can - there will always be somebody willing to hire you.

However, don't think that skipping university is the easy way. I'd say it's harder, but perhaps more interesting.
